Town of The Unrising Sun (2024)

Words by Philip Brindley with Music adaptation by Woody Guthrie and whoever is up for it ๐Ÿ˜€

There is a town in Derbyshire
They call the Unrising Sun.
It's been the ruin of many a poor soul
And me, thank God, I'm not one.

If I'd listened to what mama said,
I'd be at home today.
Being so young and foolish, lucky boy
I let ecstasy lead me astray .

My mother she's a tailor,
Sews those new blue jeans.
My sweetheart, he's a raver, Good Lad
We reved it up in every town.

We filled our glasses with a rum and coke,
Passed the E's around.
We swilled them down one pill at a time
Then rave from dusk to dawn.

The only thing a pill head needs
Is water and some space.
The only time that he's not satisfied
Is when the DJ’s drunk.

Go and tell your baby sister
Always do like I have done.
Shun that town up in Derbyshire
That they call The Unrising Sun.

It's one foot on to the platform,
Both hands in the air.
I'm not going back down to Derbyshire
To wear my ball and my chain.

My life is almost over,
My race is almost run.
Going back down to Derbyshire
To sort the town that never sees The Rising Sun.
